About the
Conference
Welcome to ESJP 2026: Engineering, Human Systems, and Shared Futures, an international gathering hosted by the Innovation and Industrial Engineering Department at Tecnológico de Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico, on October 29–31, 2026. ESJP 2026 brings together academics, practitioners, students, educators, community partners, and industry leaders to explore how engineering interacts with human systems such as education, work, mobility, water, and humanitarian contexts. Building on the vision of the Engineering, Social Justice, and Peace (ESJP) community, the conference promotes engineering practices that advance equity, inclusion, sustainability, and community empowerment. We seek to better understand the relationships between engineering and the social, cultural, economic, and environmental contexts that shape it, fostering dialogue on how engineering can support democratic, non-oppressive, and peaceful futures. Through academic dialogue, open participatory formats, and collaboration, the conference creates a space to reflect on how engineering can contribute to more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient shared futures across our current world and beyond.
Participation Philosophy
ESJP 2026 values diversity of perspectives, openness to dialogue, and collaborative experiences, or community-engaged initiatives are highly encouraged.
The conference welcomes participants from academia, industry, government, NGOs, and community organizations.
Contribution Pathways
Contributions are welcome in English and Spanish.

For participants interested in sharing research, educational experiences, analytical case studies, or exploratory engineering work.

This theme examines the relationship between engineering systems, industrial transformation, and workforce realities in North America and other regions. Contributions may explore manufacturing, logistics, labor conditions, occupational safety, regional development, sustainability, and how engineering decisions shape opportunities, risks, and well-being within industrial ecosystems.

Humanitarian Engineering
The Humanitarian Engineering track explores engineering approaches to addressing humanitarian challenges arising from disasters, conflicts, displacement, and fragile contexts. We welcome research and practice on humanitarian logistics, emergency response, post-disaster recovery, health systems, shelter, and interdisciplinary collaborations that strengthen the capacity of communities and humanitarian organizations to respond to complex crises.
Innovation & Appropriate Technology for
Inclusive Communities
This theme focuses on engineering innovation that responds to the realities and needs of diverse communities. Topics may include context-aware design, co-creation, sustainable technologies, accessibility, low-cost solutions, and engineering approaches that balance technical performance with cultural, environmental, and social relevance.

Communities

The STEM Student Impact Award recognizes outstanding undergraduate and graduate students who use science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to create meaningful and measurable impact beyond the classroom. The award celebrates projects and initiatives that address real-world challenges through innovation, research, entrepreneurship, community engagement, or industry collaboration. By highlighting students who transform knowledge into practical solutions with demonstrated social, environmental, educational, or economic value, the award promotes leadership, creativity, and a commitment to advancing society through STEM.
